As a result, the GSE share of new mortgage business rose from 46 percent in the second quarter of 2007 to 84 percent in the second quarter of 2008. Without the GSEs to finance mortgages, it was very clear that mortgage finance would essentially dry up. ()

ADP Employment Report:
ADP sees December U.S. Private Sector Jobs down 693,000; ADP December U.S. Private Sector Jobs expected to be down 515,000.

Energy Information Administration (EIA) weekly petroleum inventories:
U.S. Refineries ran at 84.6% capacity versus capacity of 82.5% Week Ago; U.S. Distillate Stockpiles increased by 1.79 Million Barrels at 137.821 Million Barrels; U.S. Gasoline Stockpiles increased by 3.334 Million Barrels at 211.437 Million Barrels; U.S. Crude Oil Stockpiles increased by 6.682 Million Barrels at 325.419 Million Barrels; U.S. Gasoline Stockpiles increased by 3.3 Million Barrels in the week compared to expectations of an increase by 600,000 Million Barrels; U.S. Distillate Stockpiles increased by 1.8 Million Barrels in the week compared to expectations of an increase by 900,000 Million Barrels; U.S. Refineries Ran at 84.6% capacity compared to expectations of an increase by 0.3 points at 82.8%; U.S. Crude Oil Stockpiles increased by 6.7 Million Barrels in the week compared to expectations of an increase by 700,000 Million Barrels.
