how can what happened to Wesley Snipes and the IRS situation be avoided?

So Wesley Snipes is serving time in jail for tax evasion? Does a person not know if they owe somebody some money? Didn't Wesley Snipes owe like $3 million or more? But isn't he worth more than $100 million? Why even fuss about $3 million dollars of what he owes? Was he intentionally avoiding the IRS is why he is in jail? This bothers me that I keep hearing celebrities getting in trouble because they owe money to the IRS. How does one not know? Doesn't the IRS have a website to see EVERYTHING regarding your activities involving making taxable income and how much a person owes?
