Daily Market Commentary for January 16, 2009 from

With the historical inauguration of President-Elect Obama on Tuesday, its very likely that trading activity will be weak as well. ()

Economic data released today:

Consumer Price Index:
U.S. December Consumer Prices fell 0.7% compared to consensus of a drop by 0.8%; U.S. December CPI Ex-Food & Energy Unchanged compared to consensus of an increase by 0.1%; U.S. December CPI Unrounded fell 0.737%; U.S. December CPI Unrounded Core fell 0.015%; U.S. December CPI Energy Prices fell 8.3%; U.S. December CPI Food Prices fell 0.1%; U.S. Real Average Weekly Earnings rose 0.6% in December; U.S. CPI rose 0.1% in 2008 which is slowest rise since 1954.

Industrial Production:
U.S. December Industrial Production fell 2.0% compared to consensus of a drop by 1.2%; U.S. December Capacity Utilization fell 1.6-points at 73.6% compared to consensus of 74.5%; U.S. November Industrial Production Revised to a drop by 1.3% from a drop by 0.6%; U.S. November Capacity Use Revised to 75.2% from 75.4%.

University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment:
Mid-January Expectations 57.2 compared to December reading of 54.0; Mid-January Current Index 69.2 compared to December reading of 69.5; Mid-January Sentiment came in at 61.9 compared to December reading of 60.1; 5-Year Inflation Forecast rose 3.0% compared to December gain of 2.6%; 12-Month Inflation Forecast rose 2.0% compared to December gain of 1.7%.
